OSU basketball: Holder, Ford hear nothing from Kentucky

STILLWATEROklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder said that as of Friday evening, Kentucky had not asked him for permission to speak with men's basketball coach Travis Ford about its coaching vacancy. An Oklahoma State spokesman returned a phone call on Ford's behalf on Friday night, saying the coach had no comment.
Kentucky fired coach Billy Gillispie on Friday after just two seasons in Lexington. This spring, the Wildcats failed to make the NCAA Tournament this season for the first time in 18 years. But Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart made it clear that Gillispie's dismissal was due to philosophical differences and that the Wildcats need a coach who understands that “this is not just another coaching job.”
One person who understands that intimately is OSU's first year coach, who just guided the Cowboys to a 23-12 record and its first NCAA Tournament appearance in three years. Ford is a Kentucky native and UK grad, and his wife, Heather, was a swimmer at Kentucky. Ford transferred to Kentucky after playing his freshman season at Missouri and was the point guard on a Rick Pitino-coached Final Four team.

Radio reporter George Weber found dead in NYC apt.

Longtime WABC-AM radio reporter George Weber was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment Sunday, the victim of an apparent homicide, ABC News Radio Vice President Steve Jones said.
More News
Weber, 50, worked for at WABC for 12 years as the on-air reporter for popular shows such as "Curtis and Kuby." The station let him go amid programming changes last year, and he had since worked as a freelancer for ABC News Radio, the national network.
Jones said he called the police when Weber failed to show up for a scheduled shift on Saturday.
Police at first found nothing amiss at the three-story brownstone on Henry Street in Brooklyn's Carroll Gardens neighborhood, where Weber lived alone on the ground floor, Jones said.
But on Sunday, police checked again and found Weber dead in his apartment, Jones said.
The police released few details of Weber's death. A spokesman said only that the victim was found dead at the scene around 9 a.m. with a wound to his neck. Autopsy results were expected Monday, said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the city medical examiner's office.
Weber was a veteran radio newsman who worked at stations including KGO in San Francisco and KTLK and KMPC in Los Angeles before coming to New York.
"He really loved news radio and enjoyed being on the air and enjoyed the connection he had with his listeners," Jones said. "He also loved Brooklyn and his neighborhood."
Jones added, "Our condolences and prayers go out to George's family and friends at this very difficult time."
Weber's death stunned residents of the neighborhood of handsome row houses.
Nick Olivieri, who lives across the street, said he had known Weber for nearly a decade.
"He was a real good guy," Olivieri said. "This is a shame — this is a shock."
Weber recounted on his blog how he was fascinated with radio from an early age and even set up a makeshift radio station in the basement of his childhood home in Philadelphia.
"While still in high school, I talked my way into a job at a daytime-only radio station in nearby Doylestown, Pa. — WBUX," he wrote.
Fellow ABC radio reporter Aaron Katersky said it was strange to be reporting on the slaying of someone to whom he had phoned in the details of news stories himself.
"He was a nice fellow with an irreverent take on some of the day's events," Katersky said.
There were no immediate arrests.

Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera, aka Shorty, makes Forbes Billionaires List

Drugs are big money.
BY Catey Hill DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Case-in-point: the fat wallet of “El Chapo.” Wait, who?
Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera made the Forbes Billionaires List this week.
He's the 701th member of the list with an estimated net worth of $1 billion.
Guzman Loera is the head of the Sinaloa drug cartel. He escaped from Mexican prison in 2001, CNN reports.
The Attorney General of Mexico was not pleased:
"I will never accept that a criminal could be recognized as someone distinguished, even if it is by a magazine like Forbes," Medina Mora said at a drug traffic summit Thursday in Vienna, Austria, CNN reports.
Forbes is "comparing the deplorable activity of a criminal wanted in Mexico and abroad with that of honest businessmen," he said.
Nor is the Mexican president:
"It is very sad the intensification of a campaign, which seems to me, has been launched against Mexico," President Felipe Calderon said.

BeBe Winans: Gospel Singer Arrested For Assault

Just one day before his good friend Oprah Winfrey's domestic violence special, gospel singer BeBe Winans was booked on a domestic violence accusation for allegedly shoving his ex-wife Debra D. Winans to the ground during an argument last month.
Court filings that were first obtained by TheSmokingGun.com indicate that the gospel balladeer had a "verbal altercation" with his ex-wife on Feb. 13 about "custody issues dealing with their children."
The pre-Valentine's Day incident took place at his ex's Nashville home, where the 46-year-old singer had driven to pick up his children.
The filing also claims: "The victim was telling the defendant of issues with the children when he became irate. The defendant then pushed the victim to the ground. The victim was in fear of bodily injury."
Winans was arrested on March 11 on a misdemeanor domestic assault charge.

The Grammy-winner was briefly held at the Davidson County jail before posting $1,000 bond.
Winans released six solo CDs following his success as a part of the duo BeBe & CeCe alongside his sister CeCe Winans.
The brother-sister duo has recently reunited and had been recording a comeback CD.
Winans, who had a stint on Broadway as Harpo in 'The Color Purple,' is currently a judge on the BET reality series 'Sunday Best,' which is currently taping its new season in Atlanta.
A rep for BET's 'Sunday Best' was unable to be reached for comment at press time.
UPDATED:
BeBe Winans publicist Patti Webster released a statement regarding the arrest on Friday, March 13.
"To be accused of these allegations, which arose out of a child custody right dispute and my desire to spend time with our children as court ordered, is nothing less than heart wrenching. Since I choose to say nothing negative about my children's mother, I will make no comment other than to say the allegations are inconsistent with my character and the foundation upon which I was raised and I am prayerful that the matter is straightened out very soon for the sake of our children."
